The natural lens, which is usually crystal clear at birth, may become cloudy (opaque), blocking the light entering the eye and causing impaired vision. Surgery to remove the cataract as soon as possible is the best chance for normal vision.

In this disease, high pressure of the fluid within the eye can cause an enlarged cornea and can cause optic nerve damage in newborns and infants.
The inability to open eyes in bright light and excessive watering of the eyes can be a warning sign of congenital glaucoma but may also indicate less serious conditions, such as a blocked tear duct. For proper management, one should visit a specialized eye clinic at the earliest. Glaucoma often runs in families and, if left untreated, can result in blindness.

It is an inflammation of the drainage apparatus of the eye which causes continuous watering or sticky discharge from the eye.
