If you wear spectacles, you can have different types of vision challenges, which are called refractive errors. These include:
Hyperopia/Plus Power: You may have difficulty seeing small or close objects clearly without wearing glasses.
Myopia/Minus Power: You may struggle to see distant objects clearly without glasses, while you may be able to see smaller, closer objects without corrective eyewear.
Astigmatism/Cylindrical Power: Blurred and distorted vision for both near and distant objects
Refractive surgery is an umbrella term that includes different types of surgeries that correct spectacle power so that people can stop wearing glasses or contact lenses.
LASIK surgery (Laser-Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis), is one of the most popular types of refractive surgery. It is a state-of-the-art vision correction procedure that reshapes the cornea to correct refractive errors such as nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism.
Other types of refractive surgery include PRK, TransPRK and Contoura Vision.
Photorefractive keratectomy or PRK is one of the oldest vision correction surgeries. It is cost-effective and still widely popular in many countries.
It uses a combination of manual instruments and laser beams to reshape the cornea. PRK is the preferred technique in cases of borderline corneal thickness where LASIK can get risky.
Alongside numbing drops, an alcohol solution is placed on the eye to soften the cornea
The surgeon then smoothens the surface of the cornea with a special surgical instrument
An excimer laser is then used to precisely reshape the curvature of the cornea's surface
A bandage-like soft contact lens is then placed on the cornea to help protect the eye as it heals
TransPRK is the most advanced form of PRK Surgery, which uses only a laser beam to reshape the cornea. It is a touchless refractive procedure since no manual instruments are needed.
Numbing Eye Drops:
TransPRK Surgery is painless - numbing drops are applied before the procedure
Removal of Surface Cell:
The layer removes the outermost layer of the cells. Non-Surgical equipment or suction rings touch the eye
Reshaping the Cornea:
The laser then goes on to seamlessly reshape the corneal curvature - vision is now corrected
Bandage contact lens:
A bandage contact lens is then placed over the eye to protect it during recovery: it will be removed after 5 days
Phakic IOL is a unique technique that is recommended for you if you have moderate to severe myopia – where you can see close objects clearly, but not far ones. This condition is also called near-sightedness, or having very high refractive powers.
If you are not suited for the customised LASIK procedure, because of low corneal thickness or flat corneas, the phakic IOL technique is for you. It is safe and effective and gives you relief from wearing thick glasses.
An intraocular lens is made of biocompatible material that has been tested and proven fit for implantation for over 50 years. This is fixed in front of your natural clear lens — behind the cornea and on top of the iris.
The word ‘phakic’ means the natural lens of the eye, derived from the Greek word “phacos” meaning lens. The natural lens plays an important role in helping the eye adjust between seeing objects that are near and far. This gives the eye another focusing lens that provides high-quality, high-definition vision like a normal eye.
You cannot feel the implanted lens. The good news is that phakic IOL does not change the natural appearance of your face and does not require any special care or maintenance.
It is intended to be permanent, but the procedure is reversible if you want. The implanted lens can be removed at any time, as the surgery does not affect the important natural structures of the eye.
The surgeon creates a corneal flap.
Laser is used to reshape and sculpt the cornea.

You will have an eye examination after which the doctor may suggest the right vision corrective procedure. We use our state-of-the-art equipment to investigate details about your eye structure and functionality:
Your ophthalmologist will discuss these test reports with you for a final decision.
You will be put under topical anesthesia and one eye will be treated at a time. You will need to lie down and look up at a microscope where you will see a blinking green light. A suction ring will be applied and your vision will fade out. Don’t worry, you will see the light again once the ring is removed. The entire procedure will take only a few minutes and is usually painless.
This surgery is just a few minutes long and you can go home after it. So, do bring a friend or family member to take you back.
Your eye will be covered with a shield after putting drops and ointment. You may experience pain for 2-3 days and having oral painkillers will give you relief. You need to visit us as per the following schedule. Your visual acuity will be tested, and drops and other medication will also be advised:
Side effects of LASIK
Potential side effects of LASIK include:
As a result, you should undergo a thorough eye examination before surgery and speak to your surgeon about the expected outcomes.

Choose Contoura for
#BetterThanNormal Vision
DETAIL | COLOUR | TEXTURE | MOTION
*92.6% of patients gained 'perfect'
20/20 vision
*Maps 22,000 unique points on each eye for the most advanced, precise vision correction
Contoura Vision is the newest method of laser vision correction. It uses advanced imaging technology to enhance precision during your surgery and significantly improve the results.
Every eye has unique aberrations on the corneal surface that can cause vision problems.
It utilises Corneal Topography, a non-invasive medical imaging technique to create a highly detailed map of the corneal surface of the eye.
Using the Corneal Map, the doctor can precisely shape your cornea during surgery to correct these aberrations and achieve a better result.
Think of Contoura as an approach to surgery that is completely personalised and tailor-made to your eyes. You get to see every detail, every colour, every texture, and every motion perfectly. Everything is instantly clear – no matter whether it is close or far, day or night.
Your vision doesn’t just come back to normal. It goes a step further to get super crisp and super sharp.

Refractive surgery is advised after the age of 18 years. Till this age, your eye power is not stable and can change. The ideal upper limit is 40 years.
This depends on the eye scan. Your doctor may prescribe LASIK or alternative refractive treatments. Those who have undergone cataract surgery before, but still have some spectacle power can also benefit.
Consult our doctors to know if you are eligible for Lasik surgery
The advancements in technology ensure that vision correction is 100% and is constant for many years. However, vision naturally changes with age, so there is a chance that you might need to wear reading glasses after you are 40.
Most surgeons perform LASIK on both eyes at the same time. Patients also prefer this, as it optimises their time and reduces healing time.
The entire procedure takes about 15-20 minutes, whereas the actual time required for the Laser treatment is only 8-12 seconds for each eye depending upon the power to be corrected.
LASIK is one of the safest procedures and no major complications are noted after the surgery. At KKEI Institute, your surgery will be performed by experienced surgeons. Our technology is very precise and sensor-driven, eliminating any risks.
There are risks of infection or incomplete correction. Talk to your surgeon and get all your questions and doubts cleared, before you go ahead for surgery.
After refractive or LASIK surgery, there is no restriction on your daily activities like driving, sports, computer usage, or professional functions. You can continue your life normally with a better vision.
You can resume work and use your computer after 3 days or as soon as you see well enough. However, it is advisable to not resume driving for a week to avoid complications.
It is not advised to engage in any strenuous activity/swimming/exercise or any other contact sport for at least 3 weeks to avoid any major complications. It’s always best to consult your doctor before resuming such activities.
